hey, went down to the birdroom this morning to check my birds and found a dead chick in one of my pairs nestbox. as you can see it is not deformed it has no missing limbs so fully developed. It does have a quite big dark purple buldge on its stomach though could this be the problem.? the hen has got blood and yellow liquid on her beak and head but i'm guessing thats from eating the egg after the chick hatched. any ideas of whats happened or cause of death>? cheers in advance kyle

I think it died during hatching.
But experts may advice better.

It may have been exhausted during hatching , failed to shout for food, and mum then never fed it.

should i remove it from the nestbox ? and should i foster the opther eggs to my other pairs .?

remove the dead chick but leave the other eggs for now ,this is nothing unusual,we all lose a few hatchlings as barrie will confirm to you its nature regards gerwynmr2

when i lost a chick, it had the same red blotch on the stomach. Does anyone know what it is/what causes that red blotch ??
