I'm having the same problem as our previous care arrangements have fallen through for the week we'll be away in July. All the other budgie loving people I know are away the same week. My friend suggested her teenage daughter who will be home from uni and looking after their two budgies could also look after Pepito, but I have a feeling she'll be less than keen to take on the care of the family budgies so don't feel confident to leave my little angel there (although I do really like the girl!) I asked the people we are renting a cottage from if there could be an exception to their "No Pets" rule for a budgie but they said a budgie was unacceptable. (Unacceptable? A budgie? I ask you! ) So we are looking for someone to take him and hoping there will be a solution, other than me staying at home with him! Although I'd rather do that than risk putting him somewhere where he'd be miserable or not properly looked after...

Oh dear how can one little budgie break their no pets policy. He's not going to be much trouble is he, poor little Pepito.
Hope you find someone that you trust to look after him.

Such a shame! Peppie can stay with me! Or I can come and stay with him?!?
Try your vet, though, Ruth. I had a lovely response from mine when I was looking for someone for the three last Sept. But I do know two of the vets, and two of the nurses have birds, so would have been comfortable leaving them in any of their hands.
It is hard - you can board your cat or dog, but no-one thinks about the birds!

I know Hezz - I was just looking through newspaper ads for catteries and kennels and wondered why none of them take birds or other small pets. I suggested to my mum we could go into business boarding people's budgies but she didn't seem impressed with the idea! :-) We have looked after a few for friends in the past and would happily do it again if anyone asked, which makes me think there are probably other budgie owners out there who would do the same - if only we knew each other! I'll let you know if we find someone..

I am pleased to relate that we had a wonderful holiday and that the first-time budgiesitters did a fantastic job - Frankie & Benny were as happy and healthy as when we left them. The only change in their behaviour is that Benny is shouting more, maybe for attention as they were in a room the budgiesitters were not in for part of the day. They even still come on my finger if I've got a fruit stick or the like, which was good as I thought they might have gone backwards in their training!

That's great, then, Maz. Glad everything turned out well for you. Good budgies, too!
