G'day from down under!
My name is John, and my forum name, Betcherrygah, means budgerigar in one of the Australian indigenous dialects, don't ask me which one, so I thought it would be an appropriate forum name for an Aussie budgie lover.
I live in the city of Bundaberg, which is about 360 kilometers by road from Brisbane, the capital city in the state of Queensland.
I'm a member of a few other budgie forums and recognise a few names from those forums here.
I had two male budgies until recently (March), but sadly they both died ten days apart, and their deaths really upset me, and has left me somewhat shattered.
Larry, who was the last one to pass away was very special as I'd had him for over twelve months and we had a very special bond. His wing had been broken before I got him, and he could never fly.
He made up for his lack of flight with his loving, gentle nature, and he loved to run around the floor when he ventured out of his cage.
I'd had the other budgie, Ollie, for a couple of months, and got him as a companion for Larry. I quarantined him for a month before putting them together, and never did find out the cause of death for either of them as their deaths were quite sudden. After his death I completely dismantled their cage and thoroughly disinfected it, so I'm at a loss as to why either of them passed away.
Anyway, that's enough from me for now, thanks for your attention.
Edit: Are there any other Aussies on this forum?

Hi John
Welcome to the forum!
I am so sorry about Larry and Ollie. I know how it feels to lose two birds so close together. I lost Blueboy on March 6th and Jerry on 28th March. It's awful.
We give them the best lives we can, even if sometimes they are cruelly short.
Will you be getting more budgies?
x

Oh and yes we have some Aussies here!
At least three that I can think of off the top of my head.
Hezz, Stace and Rachel.

Hey John and welcome! Glad you found us! I too lost my birdie not long ago and as she was only one I still feel shattered to this day. Hope you will be getting some more if the time is right for you? You will find lots of rehabilitation on here too

G'day Betcherrygah John, Welcome to the forum. That's a great user name. I'm not an Aussie but my family came from Australia. I'm a kiwi from just across the ditch

Hi John, sorry about your birds. It's not easy, I know. But welcome to the forum. I'm a sort of kiwi-aussie, living in Sydney. All the way up there in Bundaberg you're still miles away.

Hi John Welcome to the forum. I'm so sorry to hear about Larry and Ollie. I am sure you did the best you could for them and gave them a happy if short life. Sometimes these things happen with no rhyme or reason. Hopefully we can rehabilitate you like Sam said

Thanks for the warm welcome folks, I really do appreciate it. Here's a couple of photos of Larry in his cage before he got to share it with Ollie. Larry loved this cage, and the door was left open much of the time, but many days he wouldn't venture out as he loved his cage so much, and felt secure there. And here's another taken they day they actually met, after Ollie's quarantine period. Even though their time together was short, they became the best of friends. Larry is in the foreground, you can see how he held his broken wing, and Ollie is hiding behind the mirror, he was camera shy. After Larry's death I gave away his cages, toys and everything else connected to him to the local RSPCA (Royal Society for Prevenvention of Cruelty to Animals) as I felt that's what Larry would have wanted. They work closely with wildlife carers groups, and appreciated the cages etc., as I was just too depressed looking at the cage. If sometime in the future I decide to become a budgie slave again, then I'll just start from scratch.

Wow! What a fantastic set up they had!
I am sure too that Larry would have wanted you to donate the cage and toys. The RSPCA do great work and only by the help of donations.
Thank you for sharing your pics John.

Sorry you lost both your birds together, John. It is very hard when their time is up. We do seem to have had a run of bad luck here recently - I too am still missing my good mate of the last 6 and half years, who pased away three weeks ago. I at least had warning as the dear lad had a massive abdo tumour, but he never lost his beautiful nature.
But, welcome, and hopefully you will be back in budgie mode soon enough.

Thanks for the kind words Ginger, BudgiesBuddy and Hezz, I really appreciate them.
Hezz I see that you're from FNQ, just where in FNQ are you?
