Please can anyone help, Bob has attacked Charlie very badly. I went to put them to bed yesterday evening, did a head count as usual, Charlie was not in her usual places, I heard a scuffling sound and realized it was Charlie on the bottom of the cage, when I picked her up I saw blood everywhere, on her chest and legs, she was bleeding quite badly, I washed her in warm water, wrapped her in a towel to dry her, then put her in a clean dry towel to keep her calm and warm, I checked on the others all OK, except BOB had blood all over her face, no injuries at all, so I know Bob is to blame. we kept Charlie wrapped in the towel overnight in a box with food and water, and prayed to find a live Charlie this morning, happily that's what we did find, she had a good fly round the living room, the bleeding has stopped, but she is very badly bitten and bruised, the question is will this happen again, is there anything we can do to prevent it, did we do the correct thing in the way we helped her, she really cant afford to have her legs damaged, she is disabled as it is. Bless her little heart, all she has done is call to the others, she is back with them, but under very close supervision, I'm not sure if this is right or wrong thing do to, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Oh no, how terrible.
I would separate Charlie and Cheeky from the other two and put them in their own cage.

Sorry about Charlie. The short answer is that it will
probably happen again. Its the same old problem of
Females sharing a confined space. Dominance,
Jealousy. Hormones etc. Sorry can't offer a solution
except separation. Yours B.J.

Thank you the replies, I sort of thought is was because the are both hens, although they are not in a small space, the aviary they are in is 5ftx5ftx7ft high, and they are only closed in at night. Thanks again your advice is very much appreciated

Poor little Charlie. She and Cheeky seem to have fun together, so they will be great friends together.

This is sad news. As if hop-along Charlie doesn't have enough to deal with!
You'll have to separate them. They may be okay supervised in the daytime, but just wait for someone who's dealt with this before to check on that.

I agree with Marianne, have Charlie and Cheeky together, so poor Charlie has some company. And as Stace mentioned, they may be okay while out of the aviary, but under supervsion. Space in the aviary certainly isn't the issue - that is a lovely big size. And Bob had beeen such a good mum!

Thanks guys for all the advice, Charlie is healing well, the swelling has gone down a lot, although she is still very badly bruised, poor little Charlie.

During the day we are keeping Charlie with us, at night we are putting her with the others, they call for each other all time, I am going to have to get another cage, to put Charlie in. Right now I just feel like giving up, just when one problem gets sorted another one comes along, thanks for asking, for now all is ok.

Don't give up, Bizzly. Your flock is beautiful. Everything will work out because you really care about your birds. You're a good Mom to all of them.

Aw Bizly - it will all work out. It is upseting when they are poorly or something happens. They are so tiny and just seem to be a constant worry sometimes but you really care about your little ones so the outcome will be positive - just might take a while to get there. Keep going and keep your chin up
