When chicks reach 28 days of age i remove them from the nest box and onto the cage floor. Mum will see baby cocks as a threat to her breeding partner,, dad will also have the same concerns about any young hen.Because of this we must always have a chick hide/gazunder on the breeding cage floor, this offers a safe haven for the chicks. This chick was attacked by the hen but i was lucky and heard the commotion, the hen was removed and the chicks were left with dad to help wean them. two days later and the 30 day old the chick is much improved

It always amazes me that how the same mother who has gone through so much to raise her chicks would attack the same chicks. But that's the case sadly.

This is very interesting, when i bred my first round, the cock was attacking the young cock and wouldn't let him near the hen, this was the point i removed the nest box and things settled down. Second time round i removed the nest box sooner and didn't have any problems.

I have seen fathers getting aggressive towards chicks and not allowing hens to feed them. They see them as potential mates for the hens.
