Hello all,
I'm a Somerset gal looking for a budgie!
I moved down to Somerset on my own away from family and friends two and a half years ago. I got myself a hamster for company but I've always wanted to have a budgie. I've been thinking of it more and more recently and I've now decided I'm going to give it a go.
We used to have a cockatiel so this weekend when I went home I persuaded my Dad to get the cage down from the loft. It's a nice cage so I'm hoping it will be suitable for a budgie.
The problem is, I don't know any local breeders. There is a garden centre here that I haven't been to yet but I was wondering if anyone knows of a breeder in Somerset. I'm happy to travel.
Looking forward to getting to know you all and find the perfect budgie for me.
A xx

Hi there and welcome to the forum. Good luck with your quest for a feathered friend. Mick, you are a gentleman - what a lovely thing to do. I can't help you A, but I think we have a list of breeders and where they are from ......... somewhere on the forum .......... will have to look and think!

Hello all, thank you for the welcome.
I'm now the proud Mummy of Alfie. I got him yesterday from a garden centre although they do buy from local breeders.
Now all I need to do is settle him in and get him used to me :-) I shall be reading the forum religiously and asking lots of daft questions!

Welcome to the forum! There's no harm in asking questions. It'll help you make a happy, healthy Alfie! Hope he's settling in well.

Thank you. I've posted a message in the taming forum. I fear Alfie is a little older than I first thought - about 6mths maybe? They said they were between 3-6 but from googling his appearance I'd say towards the upper end of what they said.

From this picture, Alfie is more than 4 moths old. The iris rings would tell further.

Very dark grey irises indicate 4 to 6 months, whereas medium grey irises indicate 6 to 8 months.

I'd say medium grey. He seems happy enough. He's all fluffed up asleep on his perch. I hope I can tame him.
