Hi Montana I only have one budgie aswell but i am now hoping to get another one.. When i first got Elfie i was at home most of the time so he had company but now my work is getting busier and i have to leave him home alone and i feel it is not fair on him, hence why i want to get him a friend,,,So i think it deppends how much time you can spend with your single budgie cos you are his flock... More people will answer you and have alot better answers than me x

Hi Montana, Moogie has made a very good point. When we got Bubbles she lived as a single budgie. As she got tamer she hated being left on her own in the room and would literally shout until we came back, so we ended up getting her some other budgie company. One thing I was very glad about though is that she was very very tame before we introduced another bird, which subsequently made the taming of the other birds a bit easier as they saw how Bubbles wasn't frightened of us. You need to consider if your bird is happy (some are perfectly happy with just a human family), and if you are providing enough stimulation. Budgies need a lot of company and attention, naturally they live in flocks and being alone isn't ideal for them. If you feel your bird is alone more often than with you, then maybe another budgie friend is the best way forward. Consider that you will need a second cage in which to quarantine/train/tame your new bird for at least a month. If you wish them to live together is the cage you want to keep them in big enough for them not to become stressed? It needs room for both to jump about freely, with good perches etc. Also consider the added cost of food and possible vet bills for a second bird. Sorry if this all sounds negative- it's really not! Just giving you some food for thought. Only you can truly know if your bird has a great life already with you or needs the company of a friend.

When i got my first budgie he was an only budgie and i spent all my time with him except for 3 hours on the days i didnt take him to work with me and he became very bonded with me however when my Ada needed a home and came to live with us my boy jake was so happy to have another budgie to play with and preen him and feed him (he would never preen or feed ada only me).
