As I was taking up Hezz's thread on Spiders when it was supposed to be about her poor little dog Mac - I thought I'd start a new thread about it here. And what better way to start it off? Well, I did say in that thread that I would rather hold a tarantula than a Huntsman spider... Didn't hold it exactly, but I got close

Is that you Sam? I love old photos. And what a look. You are clearly very unsure about being anywhere near that monster.

I do have to ask ......... what do you have against the poor huntsman? ?? The worst thing they have ever done to me is crawl up my leg! I would rather a huntsman anyday to a redback! Now there is your sneaky little blighter/biter. She isn't very big, but packs a punch!

He he! Yes, Stace - that is me. Does seem very ironic how unsure I was at things like that as a young girl, but now am completely fascinated?! Not so sure about brave Marianne, was even frightened of worm casts on the beach as a kid! Have to apologies then Hezz to the Australian Huntsman, they are a bit...well...big. But as usual what comes with phobias is how unrealistic they are. Full respect to the Red back, they are small..but mighty

They are big, the huntsman, and that is their downfall. They look like they could tear your leg off - but not a big as your tarantula! I remember once as a child, my Dad convinced Mum NOT to kill the huntsman that had taken up residence in the hallway. All the time it was there I ran that hallway, never once walked, but the spider quickly wore out her welcome. She proceeded to hatch babies - thousands of little spiders running about the walls! The vacuum cleaner came out and mum and bubs got sucked up as quickly as my mum could track them.

I have to say, I was pretty pleased to see the vacuum cleaner put to it's proper use!
