Hi! I bought a budgie this evening and it does not move at all or eat nor drink.. I am afraid that will it die? I bought this because i bought a budgie before, it was with me for 3 days, i thought it was lonely but he was eating Nd drinking.. So i asked a few people about his lonliness. They recommended me that i should buy him a friend. So i did buy 1 today and they dont seem to be friends.. The old one is eating and sleeping but the new one doesnt do anything as it is on the swing like a statue... I tried moving the swing or shaking the cage.. No difference. The place where i kept them is my living room.. Not much disturbance.. But only the tv is a little noisy.. So i would like anyone of you to give an advice about whats up with them.. Im a little worried.. Thank you very much..! Waiting for the great answers! Btw, his name is Rocco

Hiya. For a start your new budgie will need time to settle in to its new surroundings. They are all different so it will vary on how long it will take but please please do not shake it's cage. It will be very wary anyway and this will only make Rocco more shy and take longer for you to bond with him.
I would just leave the toys where they are - he will soon explore when he is ready. As for food and water, try putting some millet spray near the perches and also try putting a small pot of seed and a pot of water on the floor as young budgies tend to spend time on the floor and this way he will see it and hopefully go to investigate.
If he still seems shy, you could also try covering the cage just 3 sides for a bit.
I am sure others will offer advice too - good luck

Thanks alot robbo78 and ginger! the toys spread out.. The budgie (which i bought before buying Rocco) is very free and moves around, plays, sleeps, sings alot.. And also i have to name the old one.. Can you guys help with the poll? plus The old one always tries to bite or kiss (whatever it is) Rocco's feet, but rocco moves his feet away.. i have a feeling that the old one is also getting a lil bit quiet now

New budgies take from 2 days to 2 weeks to settle in the new surroundings. I have had new budgies who didn't eat for the whole first day, some even more. Make sure he has plenty of food and water within easy reach.

I'd agree with the others, budgies tend to be like this for a while after coming to a new environment. Covering some sides of his cage can help as it gives him a place to hide so he can feel a bit more secure. As someone else has said, clip some millet close to where he is sitting. You may not see him drink for a while when he does start as many tend to do this when no-one is watching, especially when they are in a new place.

How is your little Rocco doing now? Any sign of him calming down a bit and eating/drinking yet?
