Poor Smudge! She is such a grubby little thing at times. She was looking a little ........ well .........smudgey is the best way to describe her. So I gave her a wash off - she seems to get food grunge dirtying her feathers above her cere and beside her beak. She loved that, NOT!!!! AS a consolation prize I dried her off a little on my towel, and lo and behold she lost a fair amount of the crustiness on her cere - half off and half on. So then I was a little confused with what I was seeing and had to get the magnifying glass - yep, good one, Hezz - how to freak your bird out in one easy lesson, stick a great big eye in their face! So it was back into the cage, catch her up again and then have a good look, as I was a little worried about her nares - I couldn't really see them cleanly but the problem was my eyes, not Smudge's nostrils, luckily. Needless to say, I was not the most popular thing for the rest of the day!

Ha ha, a great big eye in her face!! Monty gets corn husks stuck to his beak when he eats corn. It's a real pain, it's there ages.

Gee, thanks! BB!!! But seriously, every time I got anywhere close to where-ever she was for the rest of the day she flew off with her usual squark, squark, but I think this time she was squarking about that big eye coming to get her!!! I was not allowed to be forgiven in any sort of hurry! But at least she looks cleaner! Corn husks are good! Nod, nod. Even Sparky will allow me to get the feathers stuck around his beak ....... most of the time.

You should have heard her little ducky quacks while I cleaned her up and again while I checked that her nares were clean! She had never lost all the brown buildup on her cere before - just needed a gentle rub for it all to fall off - she almost looks naked now!

I think so, Ruth. She came to me for vegemite this morning, which I wasn't having, but got out for her anyway, so a little spoiling can redeem me it would seem. It has been a while since they had millet too; I may bribe her with that a little later.
