My budgie Rocky, his cere is normally a grey colour but has changed to day. Can anyone tell me why this is and if anything is wrong? It looks a red/brown colour & a bit raised or swollen. Thanks, Tammy

sounds like your budgie is a girl and she is in breeding condition. do you have a photo so that we can confirm?

I've tried to add a photo but it won't work as says it's to big :-( how can I make the size smaller? I thought Rocky was a male :-( He bobs his head a lot, do female budgies do this aswell? Thanks :-)

Marianne is right. Hens change cere color when they are in breeding condition. A picture will help to confirm.

Here is a photo that was taken yesterday. Here are a few pics that were taken throughout the year. Also he bobs his head a lot & humps his perch a lot when he is looking at his mirror. Thanks :-)

Yes you have a beautiful hen It's just a hen in and out of breeding condition. There is nothing wrong with the cere in any of these pictures.

Yup. Rocky is a girl. The changing brown cere is normal.
By the way, you should really swap that plastic perch for a natural branch. The plastic will likely eventually cause nasty problems with the underside of their feet, called bumblefoot. Can't tell where you are from, but if it's the UK, willow is good and easily available.
