hi, I am new to budgie keeping, and wondered if it necessary to cover the cage at night? I usually just have a lamp on so the room isn't that bright. thanks G

I cover mine, but then again I hold weird hours. I can control the light they get in a day, and it's good to get them used to covers if they are in a cage that's coverable. If there was a fire I'd also know my cages would be screened from the worst of the smoke long enough for me to get my birds out in an emergency

HI geoff, it is best to cover them, if you have a night light, plug it in,leave a small gap in the cover, as it stops night fright.............

With covers they will enjoy uninterrupted sleep. I simply turn off the lights though.

Budgies need more sleep than us, so it's just a good idea to cover them so they get a good long sleep.
Agree about the gap in the cover...just enough so they can see a little if they wake in the night.
