One of my babies had fell out the nest. It was half feathered but still had a bit of fluff. It had happened as i had just gone into the house for a cuppa so i wasnt there to put back in the nest.
When i came out and opened the avairy door i was nearly sick as the baby was laying on the floor and all the budgie had eaten its face. They all had blood round there mouths and were loving it. Needless to see the poor little one had passed away.
Why would they do such a cruel thing?

I just dont see the difference between the babies that leave the nest because they are old enough or ones that jump the nest when they are not ready, why would the adults gone for the one thats not ready?
I am having a break from breeding for a while anyway mick as that was too upsetting yesterday

Sorry to hear about the baby budgie Serz:( Sometimes they will go for anything from egg to near adult as every male wants to keep his line going and every female wants to keep her male to herself. Rather the same as the male wild cats kill the cubs of a female thats not his, just in order to mate her again to reproduce his own bloodline.
