Hilda and Henry on the nest this morning.....hopefully we have a boy and a girl.....if all goes according to plan then the eggs should hatch the week of the 18th of June..... I won't be posting any more pictures until little ones come into the world....which we do have fingers crossed for.....if no little ones appear then Hilda has had a good few weeks of resting since she has laid an egg every day for us since we got her back in the beginning of March..... "Well if you must....make it quick"...... Hilda's "I am not amused look" with Henry looking the other way.....

Thank you for all your support.....I am becoming the nervous "grandma" of quails.....but I do have a question or two about the babies.....right now in the main area I have wood shaving down....should I clean those up and leave the bare floor so it is easier for the chicks to find the food that I scatter around....as I will be grounding up chick feed for the first few weeks.....they have 3 boxes to hide in and those I will leave the shaving in.....and as they hatch should I remove the egg shells....so no little ones cut themselves on them.....

Last night I had the chance to count the eggs....they have 9.....so now I understand why they are both sitting on them as Hilda's bottom is not big enough to cover them all.....

Wow, nine!
What is a normal clutch size for quails?

I am not sure if it is a normal size but if what I have read it correct then we should be happy if 4 little ones make it out into the world....as she may ignore the other eggs.....and I have noticed that when one leaves the box....the other one is sitting on a certain group at all times....in the picture above with Hilda and Henry.....they are always sitting on the eggs where Hilda is.....

Good luck, Kath. Can't help with your questions, I'm afraid. How long to wait?
