What do they eat? A seed diet, similar to budgies, he said they eat smaller seeds, oats etc. He said they will eat all the greens such as cress. Very similar to budgies. How long do they live? How long is a piece of string lol. He said there isn't really a time scale on them to be honest, but he said they can live upto ten years. Are they easy to breed? He said yes What do they need during breeding? Eggfood, all the usual stuff you give budgies really. What size clutch? anything from 2 to 6 babies, it all depends on the bird and how many hatch. What's there temperament? He said they are quite a placid bird so can be kept with finches and canaries as he did but not with budgies as the budgies will attack them. How do you sex them? He said they are hard to sex, he said to look out for the female carrying a handbag lol! Are they good parents? Yes, he said to not interfere with them too much when they are breeding, he said to try not to handle the young as his didn't like it. Easy to tame? He said the more you handle them then the tamer they will get, if they have been handled from young then it will make it easier, like any bird, to tame them. Hope that helps, I wrote what he told me to lol. ;D

Lol with a hand bag. What size cage minimum for a pair? I've just got a pair an the hen laid an egg in the box on the journey home I'd say work on the similar recommended sizes for budgies so at least a 30" x 18" x 18" but obviously the bigger the cage the better

If you have Rosas you can sex them by the colour, the hen will have a dull brown head whereas the cock has a pink head. Lemme find a pic of mine to show you. The normals can also be visually sexed, the cock bird has a blue band on his forehead. I would also get them a bigger cage than a Budgie breeding cage as they fly differently so need more space. I have kept mine in an aviary with my Budgies with no problems, in fact my Rosa Hen tells them off if she doesn't want them near her! My pair have abandoned their chicks and I'm still not 100% sure why, it could have been the change in weather, you need a bigger box than Budgie sized and offer them a selection if they don't settle into one, mine seem to like Finch style boxes but have got her sitting in a Bourke box with the side open as she doesn't like the main entrance lol. Watch out for chicks going light during their first moult and they can be crazy when they first fledge. They need more greens in their diet than Budgies do really, and just be mindful as they are susceptible to bacterias so extra close eye on fresh foods. Hen: Cock: Hen: Cock:

I have 2 and they do appreciate space:) They are more aviary birds than caged birds, but I know many people do keep them in cages with no probs. The minimum length of cage I'd keep them in is 4ft 6-5 ft if you want them to be able to have some flight. They don't seem to manage to excercise themselves by hovering in a cage as budgies do so need the length of cage/flight. They fly fast and like to swoop. I feed mine budgie seed with added hemp, sunflower, safflower, and all the same fresh greens that the budgies get. I've heard the can be quite offish with chicks when they fledge, but have no experience in breeding them myself to comfirm this.

Are your Budgies in a large aviary?
I keep mine with the Budgies in the aviary with no problems.
Would not house them together in a cage however.

Sexing is easy, the female has a flat head and lots of grey, the male more pink and a thinner face.
Lovely birds, they twitter and sing like a radio on low.
Very protective of nest and terrotry while breeding, can be funny on laying eggs in the right place!
They eat parakeet mix but need alot of leafy greens and carrot and bits like that. Eggfood.
They don't fly properly, they flutter everywhere like a butterfly.
My mate has kept them before and he keeps them in a Montana San Remo.
Soph.
