Sometimes I want Puck to go back in his cage, typically this is when I want to eat or he's on my keyboard and in a stubborn bitty mood (typically he jealously guard 3 keys ;D) He's got worse recently, I basically cant get him back in if he doesn't want to go. The typical approach is getting him on my finger and putting him back on. This usually works but some days he'll get close to the door then fly to my shoulder. I can get him off my shoulder usually, but we just keep repeating this Some times he'll just fly from shoulder to shoulder as I try to get him off I cant really grab him, he's to agile and knows when I'm going to try so in order stand a change I have to be really quick and I worry about hurting him. Treats dont work either, not even even millet. The most puzzling thing is, I can try for 5 minutes then I'll give up (we're well into it just being a game at that point), go out the room for a minute and when I come back he's gone in by himself! Dinner is ready in 20 minutes, I think I might be eating in the kitchen today ;D

Why not leave the room for a few minutes, then go back in and if he has gone back in then shut the cage door and taa daa you can eat your tea

That's what I do, Rachael. I attempt to put Munchy back in his cage and if he doesn't go straight in then he'll fly to the top of the cage, so then I just leave the room and peek in every so often until he's gone in. Doesn't work in an emergency but I've learnt to leave plenty of time before I need to leave the house for anything ^^

I usually do that, giving up straight after its become apparent its become a game I guess I'll do some step up training/reaffirming and try and build in some 'go in'/'come out' along with it

We've now got over this and he'll go back in almost always first time. Followed the advice you guys gave ... I start trying to get him in before I begin cooking and if he won't go in first time I'd try once more then leave him and walk out the room, after a few minutes I'd come back in and try again. After a couple of weeks he'd go straight in, usually hopping off my finger to take himself in. Struck me that its a some what similar approach to the "super nanny" bed time routine

Sky is the only one I have a problem with in the evening, takes two of us to block his exits and get him back in the cage. Little beast!

The day before yesterday I put Lilek in, then Roswell, went to get Sky.
Roswell flew out again, this happened 5 times before I got Sky in with them.
Little naughty budgies.

I have been using the little cage for the budgies' morning dose of sun. Sparky being the bright spark he is, has figured out already what what this all means and is starting to give me a run for my money. As soon as I open the little cage's door, he is off. This morning it was back and forth 4 times before I could get him into the large cage, catch him up, and then put him into the little one.
