PJ has been freaking me out the last few days because every now and then he does a shiver which is so fast that he buzzes.
I know the shiver I've seen up till now, when they puff up and then shiver to get their feathers in line I'm guessing and the one after a bath. This shiver is like 3 times that speed, actually makes a buzzing sound for a split second.
He's perfectly normal so I'm not worried about his health but is this normal? An age thing? He's coming up on one year.

You mean, like a fly? To be honest, I haven't come across that or, at least, noticed it. It sounds like a quirk of the bird to me, though.

Is he holding his wings away from his body when he does it? I'm wondering if he is hot and fanning his body which they do but I've never heard a buzzing sound though......

Nope, he's not over heated. It's just like that little shiver/wiggle thing they do after a bath but it's so fast that the feathers make buzz sound instead of a ruffle sound, like he's a little cell phone on manner mode, actually pretty cool. It could be that he's stronger now with age. He's starting to do all kinds of things like flying with more sound and power than is needed. I think he's trying to show off.

Okay finally had a chance to come on my laptop. One of budgies, Holly does this ruffling thing when she is out of the cage. She does it an awful lot and I've worked out its because she is excited. None of my other budgies do this, other than the odd rearranging of feathers.
Is it anything like this?

Holly is so sweet. Can she fly with that bung wing?

Holly is so sweet. Can she fly with that bung wing? nope I'm afraid not. I got her last December from a woman who was rehoming her because she was too noisy for their daughter. They couldn't tell me anything about her wing so i don't know how she got it, they thought she couldn't fly because she had been clipped. She hadn't been clipped.

Yup that's what he does sometimes but because of the shape of the feathers the sound is a little different.

Yup that's what he does sometimes but because of the shape of the feathers the sound is a little different. Personally I wouldn't worry about it then As long as he is eating, drinking, and acting normal then he sounds fine to me
