I noticed one thing about our new budgie that's different than our previous one. When we put our finger in front of him to step on, he seems to be terrified. Our previous bird steppped on from day one. Also, our new one seems to have difficulty getting around the cage. It is a large double cage and I'm wondering if that could be a probelm. He has difficulty jumping from one perch to the next. He fell on the bottom of the cage and i tried to help him up. He actually managed to jump out of the cage door and it was difficult picking him up to place him back. Hope we are not tramatizing the poor little guy. We just trying to make him comfortable with us.

Firstly, you should leave your new budgie for a few days to settle in his new environment.
Secondly, your previous budgies was finger tame whereas this one is not. So you will have to work to tame him. It's a long process which may take weeks, if not months.

How would our fisrt budgie have been finger tame? I'm sure that the pet store doesn't do this. Is finger taming natural for some budgies. I would think that it has to be taught.

Maybe the first bird was hand fed.

I would say more like different personalities in your birds. Some are laid-back, easy to train, not fazed by much and others are much more skittish, and nervous of new things. No two birds are the same and what works for one won't necessarily work for the other.

Maybe the first bird was hand fed. I doubt it if Petco hand fed the budgie. When we bought tweetie 11 years ago we were waited on by a very competent and curteous young lady. She spent some time with us. Last Saturday when we went to get our new budgie we got horrible service. We actually left and came back because we were ignored at first. Sign of the times, I guess.

You're welcome Almost all pet shops get their budgies from breeders. So it is possible that both budgies are from different breeders. One must have handled his chicks while in the nest box (or hand fed as Robert said), and the other one did not do that.

Agree with all comments here - all birds are different, afterall we are all different! Some learn at slower paces than others but give it time and patience is the key, let us know how you get on?
