Hi all As some of you may know, I have eight budgies. Dave (8-10 yrs) Tess (6-7 yrs) Romeo (3-4 yrs) Georgia (1 yr) Lilly (2 yrs) Gilbert (1 yr) Digger (less than 1 yr) and Poppi (less than one yr). Dave is obviously the oldest and ever since we got an aviary, he has been finding it hard to get back up onto the branches if he falls (he is a bit fat and not a very good flyer) We even have a branch that I call "Dave's special branch" that he uses to get up! But I noticed a couple of days ago, that he finds it hard to climb up (it gets a bit steep at the top of the branch) and when he was trying to fly from the top of "Dave's special branch" to a normal one he fell right off again! We have been thinking about getting a ladder to replace "Dave's special branch", but we need it at least 1.215m! Where could I get one that big? (I live in Australia, NSW, Wagga) Thanks in advance Nicola

Hi Just get a long enough piece of branch or wood & nail cross pieces
to it like a ladder. It don't have to look like a real ladder. Just so long
as it works . Yours B.J.

I suggest making one too, Nicola. I have done this - get a piece of 20x20 mm untreated pine the length you need, some dowel, cut to appropriate length. You need about 5cm for each "rung", plus width of the support, another two, and 5 out the other side - at least 12cm lengths. Maybe a bit more, if Dave is a bit big. Each "step' shouldn't be more than about 5cm higher than the one below. Again, if Dave is show budgie this can be more. Drill through your support, making sure it is straight, with a drill bit a tiny bit smaller than your dowel, and then hammer in your dowel until it is all the way through and even on both sides. This is only a small one, but give you the idea of what I mean: Then take off the top and bottom at a 45degree angle, so the support sits straight on the floor and if you need to, you can put a hook through the top to hook over a perch. I found with mine, by making it a bit too long, I used the top rung and cable-tied it to the perch - gave it a bit more stability. If you have a handy dad or uncle, granddad, they would be able to whip this up in no time.
