Brand New Budgie

I recently posted here that our budgie, Tweety, died of a nasty tumor a couple of weeks ago. We immediately went out and bought another budgie (Brady). I did a thorough cleaning of the cage and replaced the toys and perches. I looked for a new replacement cage and couldn't find anything that I liked better than what we had. My question: Is there any reason why we shouldn't re use the cage. I was told this weekend that you shouldn't use the cage from a former budgie, but the person who told me that could not explain any reason why you shouldn t use the old cage.

Hmm don't know why not unless it's very old and rusty or falling to bits I've re-used cages before until they got to the point where I thought best get a new one.

The only time I would have thought that you couldn't reuse the cage was if the old budgie had died of a highly infectious disease. I don't think that there are any contagious tumours in any species and if you cleaned the cage thoroughly then I would have thought that everything would be fine.

If it is rusty or damaged then you should use it but as long as the cage itself and all of its contents have been thoroughly cleaned, I recommend F10sc, then there shouldn't be a problem

No reason not to re-use a perfectly good cage. A tumour certainly isn't contagious, and a good wash and scrub as you would normally, should see you straight.

I used the same cage for Pepito, after a good disinfect and clean out. It's a good idea to replace perches and toys etc as you did but the cage should be fine.
