Hiya, haven't been on for a while . Pickle-lily has itchy ears any ideas what it could be? She had a visit to the vets a couple of months ago and was given an antibiotic /hormone injection which improved her slightly runny poo and mood Is it a habit or does she need another vets visit?

Most budgies scratch their ear or head side with their feet. Is it more than normal?

Yes more than normal she's rubbed the feathers away on both ears. She likes to rub her head corners of objects.

The picture doesn't show much. I'll ask Barrie to have a look.

When I put the pic at full size, I can see an obvious bald patch there by the ear.
The bird might be rubbing its head/face to relieve an irritation. Maybe an infection or some kind of parasites? I'm not experienced enough with this kind of thing to know, but those would be my thoughts if it were my bird.

In the first instance i would treat the birds for parasites using spot on available from most pet stores, if this does not work visit the vets for some ear drops.

Ok thanks, i have been out most of the day and she has made it worse, she is also just started a moult so is uncomfortable anyway. I will try the Spot on then try the vet. Thanks again

I need a bit of help. I got some Xeno450 from our local vet( not the avian vet) as i couldn't get Ivermectin. I found it very difficult to put the recommended 1/2 drop and think it was a bit more . She has noticed it and is scratching and shaking her head around . Is this normal shall wash it off ? I'm a bit worried she may manage to ingest it?
