I have just copied this from a message from FB friend who has lost large numbers of birds........................i do believe keeping birds in damp conditions will result in this happening , the biggest danger is not quarantieing any new birds brought into your birdroom/home
COCCIDOSIS...IS NOT A JOKING WORD .....trust me when i say i wouldnt wish this on any of you ......no matter what birds you breed ....we have it ..right here in our shed ..ive seen it first hand today through the vets slides of the results of the ortopsy...4 to be exact ...from extreme to minimal but all dead ....
let me just explain a few things to ...no. 1 quarrentine is a must for atleast 6 weeks away from every other bird you own ..
2ndly ...treat them with coccivet or equivalent while in the quarrentine period because they will have it ......and the extreme depends on the season the conditions of your setup and the condition of your birds ....
3rdly always remember the birds added to your flock be it one or 20 as the host bird is in there and even after yours are dieying its probably still alive and spreading it ..
4thly get rid of it ..
5thly treat all birds as a preventative 2-3 mthly for a week with a good coccidosis treatment as a precaution
6thly. your birds probably all ready have it ..so be vigulant and treat in advance rather than cure if it takes hold your set for heartbreak ...
7thly...my suggestion for all to do with treating your birds ...
week 1 coccivet or equivalent..
2 days off so just normal water ...
week 2 apple cider vinegar in the water ..
2 days off so just normal water ...
week 3 pro biotic...
2 days off
week 4 normal water and half a lemon in the cage or more pending size of avary
week 5 coccivet all birds either via dropper or water
2 days off
week 6 pro biotic ready for realese if all birds appear healthy
this is a full 6 week treatment for all your birds not just new arrivals...so please remember it and if necassary cut and paste it to your messages ....for safe keeping ...
