We have had our new budgie for about 4 weeks. He seems to be adjusting ok, my wife is finger taming him. He is still very quiet and doesn't chirp much. Our former budgie was way more active when we first got him. Anyway this guy seems very quiet, he seems to be eating (and pooping) okay, but we are a bit concerned that he is too quiet and maybe something could be wrong.

Hi finiteguy I am no expert as elfie is my first ever budgie but what i can say is,Elfie was so so quite for a few months and did not play with his toys at all...i have had him since december 2011 and to be honest it is only now that he has REALLY started to come in to his own and then he still is not sure about being out of his cage and when he is out he hardly flys around.... Im sure others can advice you but just thought i would let you know my situation and remember all budgies are different

Firstly, some budgies take a lot longer than others to settle in the new home. Secondly, budgies have different personalities when it comes to chirping and playing.

I agree with the others. Perhaps he's still adjusting. Perhaps he's just a quiet chilled out budgie. Perhaps he's a little mummy's boy It sounds as though he's getting more comfortable with you though, so that's a good thing. Just think how far you've come in just 4 weeks. It's not long really, for a little baby.

Some budgies love the sound of their own voice and others are happy to observe what goes on around them without shouting about it all! If that is all thats bothering you about him then don't worry, as has been said before they are all so different. He's comfortable with his new mum now obviously which is brilliant, well done to you and your wife for your progress so far.

Thank you for your reply. Our new budgies seems to be doing okay, but he doesn't like to come out of the cage. Maybe that will change. I'm also not convinced that it is a male. His blue cere is not bright blue like our former male budgie, so we will have to wait and see. My wife named the bird "Brady" so that will have to suffice if it turns out to be a female.

The cage is his safe area; his haven, his home. Outside is big and scary and unknown. He has to settle before he will be confident enough to venture outside. Brady's cool.
