And at the crucial moment... I get a shot of the torch bearer and the flame obscured by my son doing what I told him to do- cheer and wave your flag like mad!! Ha ha, what a picture eh? Dad got a better one, in fact a perfect one with his camera which I'm waiting for him to send me....

The 'not quite' photo of the torch is so funny. It's clever how you've managed to so completely and accurately obscure the whole of the torch!

I am wondering what the interesting old building in the background is, Sarah?
I remember taking my boys along to see when the torch was working its way around Australia in 2000. Mind you they were only 1 and 5 at the time - not something they have remembered!
Just finished reading Jams Patterson's "Private - Games" which is all based on the London Olympics. Puts a whole different way of seeing the games. I wonder if Marianne and the rest of our London members are terribly inconvenienced by them coming up.

We had a fab time Mick! Youngest has gone off to school today with photos, the free stuff he was given and his union flag for show and tell. Hezz, the building is called the Bargate- it is the old gate into Southampton, and still attached to part of the old city walls. You can walk around the walls and see interesting parts of the ancient city hidden amongst the new buildings. The sea level used to come right up to the walls so we are told- so all of the land down hill from there used to be under the sea. It takes about 10 minutes to reach the sea from the Bargate now incredibly. You can always see the cruise ships, Isle of Wight ferry and fishing boats, oil tankers etc from the higher floors of shopping centres etc around the city. Stace, I couldn't believe it when I took the picture- I saw his hand coming across as I pressed the shutter and I knew that the moment was lost, but that's life eh!!!

BB- it was a once in a lifetime event, and we weren't going to miss it for a bit (and sometimes a lot) of rain!! I want the kids to know they were there and that they were part of it. We couldn't afford actual tickets for the games, so this is the closest they will get to the Olympics. My middles son also had his 14th birthday on the day so he'll always know how he spent it!!

I too love the obscured torch pic. It makes the memories that much sweeter.

Lee did slightly better than me but that flippin' flag was a menace to his pictures as well, fortunately he has an extra few inches height advantage.... In this one you can see the flame on the stage where the relay exchange took place

Old architecture is so much more interesting than the modern stuff, I feel. I am glad the boys enjoyed their day.
