I bought Tricho Plus sachets a little while back on the advice of Barrie Shutt, to use as a preventative for my budgies.
I lost a budgie in my aviary last year to a infection, I took her to the vets and was treating her with baytril but we lost her. Now one of my hens, Lola, in my house appears to have vomited this morning and is sitting there all listless and keeps opening and closing her mouth. Her feathers under her beak are all wet and there is a trickle of wetness down her chest. This is similar to what happened to Lilah last year but I don't want to jump to conclusions yet, Lilah had yellow gunky stuff in her mouth, which Lola doesn't have as far as I can tell, but I do want to start her and the other five budgies in the cage with the tricho plus to be on the safe side. The thing is the instructions only say how much to make up for 80 budgies! I have nothing even close to that amount so I need to know what dose to give to six budgies. Can anyone help me please?

In case someone doesn't come on soon who knows, tell me what dose it says for 80 budgies and I'll calculate that down for 6 budgies.

Thanks Stace ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I got 8 sachets with it and the instructions state: "Cage Birds Dissolve 1 sachet in 4 litres of drinking water (daily ration for 80 cage birds)"

If you can, divide the sachet contents into 13 equal-sized portions. That means you add 1 portion into 307mls of water. (A bit rougher calculation, but it might be easier to divide sachet into 12 portions and add to 330mls of water.)
Reasoning: 6 birds is approx 1/13th of 80 birds. Which means you divide the sachet into 13 and you divide 4 litres by 13.
This is one day's dose or daily ration. So one sachet will give you 12 to 13 days worth of meds for six budgies.

I'm really worried about Lola. she hasn't been sick since earlier but she is just sitting there. Its always hard to tell with Lola because she is such a lazy hen and doesn't move much anyway ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) but she just doesn't seem right. I've just been washing out a carry cage I have so I can separate her if I need to, its not ideal but with me having two new birds in quarantine elsewhere in my house I can't use the spare cage because they have it. I think I will see how she is in the next few hours and then separate her if she isn't any better. Hoping its just something that shes eaten ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png)

I'd treat them all to be on the safe side Rachael.
I also divide my sachets up - you can probably weigh it in g's if you got those 1g scales?

Hope she's okay, Rachael. If she doesn't seem right, she probably isn't. I've learnt the hard way to go with my gut with these birds.

Just incase any reads this thread for help, I have followed the advice of Barrie and mixed half a sachet in 2 litres of water, then kept the left over water in the fridge to use tomorrow ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

This thread is almost four years old.
It should be a prescription only drug.

Hi orangefronted ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I was advised by a forum member that I could purchase it from Amazon as we lost our Alfie to Trichomoniasis and I had to make sure the other boys were treated for it as it is highly contagious. I treat them every 6 months with a 5 day course. Dosage for caged birds: Dissolve 1 sachet of Tricho Plus in 4 litres of drinking water (daily ration for 80 caged birds). During treatment birds should not be allowed to drink from other sources. Administer Tricho Plus fresh daily. A treatment normally lasts five days.Hope that helps ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)
