Just wondered why egg bound means as I have a girl budgie and don't know what that means? Hello. Occasionally a hen will produce a slightly larger egg than normal. A little of the egg can be seen in the opening of the cloaca. Usually laying is successful with the application of a drop of olive oil & a warm environment. It' not a regular occurrence so you need not worry about it.......B.J.

egg binding is not normally a problem providing your hen/s are in breeding condition, some try to "push"birds to breed to soon [before they are ready/in condition] or leave it until they are "over the top"[condition wise] thats when the problems start .as for laying unfertilised eggs ,they all do at times, but this is mainly down to nature,or old age.

Sweetie, there is nothing to indicate your hen will lay eggs. If she is your only bird, later on when she is mature, she may or may not lay an egg randomly. Some hens are notoriously egg layers, but not generally. If she is in good health and fed a good diet, even the odd egg shouldn't be a problem. It could be, but not normally. This is a good reason to keep her supply of calcium constant but don't be getting yourself into a tizz about something that will probably never happen.
