So my budgie Yo-Yo (female) was playing around in her cage as I was watching her. She is a singular budgie so there isn't any feathered mates for her. I have been noticing that she lifts up her tail, exposing her vent a lot. Is she laying an egg? What's she doing? She doesn't seem sick. She doesn't lay on the bottom of the cage or pants heavily. Just normal old her except for what I discovered today. She's never laid an egg before (she's almost 3 years old) because we don't want to provide her a nest of any sort. Confused, a bit worried but it's a natural thing for females birds to do right? Symptoms of laying an egg anyone? Thanks.

I don't think so. Even if she lays an occasional egg, just remove it. It is normal for some single hens to do so.

Hello, Hens on odd occasions do experience some of the symptoms that can best be described as a false pregnancy. Some only feeling a little bit out of sorts. to full blown laying of eggs & sitting. Once their hormones have settled down She'll return to normal.....B.J.
