OUCH! I have never ever been stung by a bee or wasp..until today. I was going to water the tomato plants in front of the house and rinse the front steps from the feeding frenzied mess the budgies made earlier when a wasp zoomed past my ear.. Let me stop there and let everyone know that I have ALWAYS been deathly afraid of bees/wasps. Their stinger is what scared me. Back to the story... it zoomed past my ear and I ran away and swatted at it. Gone, I turned around and started watering/rinsing. I was watering the shrub beside our house and all of a sudden I saw them zooming at my face. I swatted and tried backing away I felt one hit my face-kind of like it flew into me and crashed. I didn't realize what was happening or what had happened until I felt the right side of my face swell up, my eye shut and I felt a warm zone. Increasingly getting warmer and warmer until my face was so hot- hubby thought I was coming down with a fever too. I was in so much pain-I screamed. Hubby heard me screaming bloody murder and ran towards me and saw me cupping my face and screaming "I can't see!!!" He pulled out the stinger and applied cold water to reduce swelling and applied vapor-rub. All I can say is: OWWWWEEEEEEE!! That and......I am glad I am not allergic to stings, it could've been worse. Still in pain...anyone else wanna share wasp/bee horror stories? My foe:

They really hurt don't they.
Try putting some vinegar on it. If you've got a really small container, like a shot glass size, fill with vinegar and just hold it upside down and sealed around your skin over the site of the sting for quite a while and repeat. Or use soaked cotton wool.
When you take the stinger out, you need to scrape it off/out too, not pull it. Otherwise you may still leave the stinger behind. You want to get the stinger out as soon as possible.

Eeek! That looks like a real mean wasp and I hope you are ok now? Here in the UK they are not as big as that. Fortunately, I haven't been stung by a wasp but I did have a queen hornet arrive nonchalantly in my flat a couple of summers ago - at first I thought its was a lawn mower by the low buzz it made! Here is a normal worker wasp (left) compared to the queen hornet (right)
