Hello my name is Helen I am devastated this morning after my 3 month old male budgie Perry broke his neck after getting stuck in a self closing door last night. He died in my hand. He was already very tame and just starting to show the signs of talking. I cant stop crying. This might sound daft but I was already really attached to him, I had him at 8 weeks. The house seem really quiet without him. My husband thinks we should go back to the breeder and get another one. I am not so sure. I know I could never replace him. Just wondered what your thought were. Thanks for reading. Attachments:

hi Helen, what a terrible accident i cant imagine how you are feeling. i would personally say give yourself a while to mourn your loss and get your head in a better place, then by all means go back to the breeder and buy another if you feel thats what you want at that time, who knows you will probably even get a relation! dont rush into anything you may regret while your upset of course nothing can replace him but in the future im sure you will aquire another feathered friend, sorry again for your loss x

Oh heck how awful for you! Poor little mite, only blessing perhaps that he died quickly!! I would get another but change the cage myself or do something so that the door doesn't 'self-open/close', I don't think self closing door should be allowed, mind I don't think cages that hardly hold a mouse should be either but I see them around!

Oh no, that's awful. I know exactly how you feel, we recently lost our budgie the other week (but by "lost" I mean he got out of a window), and the flat is deathly quiet without him chirping away, it's horrible. We have been waiting for any news from people but have pretty much decided that it's probably time to move on. We have decided to get another budgie but not until after we have had a period to mourn. Like Moogie says, you wouldn't be replacing him, just giving your love to another bird.
I hope you feel better soon xx

Rest in Peace, dear sweet Perry. Keep his cute face and happy song close to your heart, and he will be with you forever. Perry would want you to find another little friend to share your home and your love... when you are ready.

So sorry for your sad loss Helen. Do get another budgie, as Moogie says, you won't be replacing him, you will be giving love to another budgie. You were obviously training Perry so well, he would want you to carry on. You will always have a place in your heart for him.

Thank you all, Millij it was not the cage door that he was trapped in, it was an internal fire door that self closes, perry flew back through it as it was closing. I have spoken to the breeder I got him from and he is going to get in touch tomorrow, he may only have a female though and I really wanted a male. I am just sad that perry was so young and we didn't get to see his real potential character come out. The house does seem very quiet though.

helen, so terribly sorry you lost your little man. Personally, I would give myself time to grieve for the lost one. But that is me, and no-one but yourselves can make the decision - you know if you are right to get another, or whether to wait. Take care.

OMG Helen I so feel devastated for you little Perry wouldn't have wanted you to be without a feathered friend so when the time is right for you (you will know when) please get another one. Am sure you will love him/her just as much but in a different way x
