hi everyone, i am new to budgie keeping and only have my little hen as a pet, so i knew from the start that i needed to do some intensive training with her if i wanted to get her to where i wanted her to be. i have had her 3-4 weeks now and the progress we have made is amazing. she was an avairy bred budgie who had never had human contact and she was 4 months old when i got her. i started trying to get her attention with bits of food through the bars after about a week of having her, which soon caught her attention, after this was regular, i started to offer her bits of food from my hand in the cage, due to the fact she really wanted the millet, it didnt take her long to take this either. next came the most amazing stage of trying to coax her onto my hand, and when she finally did the feeling was amazing. we have now gotten to the stage where i can remove her from the cage while she sits on my hand and she will happily sit on my hand out of the cage, i am so proud of her and i guess of myself too. the point i am trying to make is, that with your time and patience, nothing is impossible. when i first got sweetie i had serious doubts over whether she would co operate with taming or not, i have obviously been lucky to have such a lovely girl but she was scared witless at the beginning and look at us now. we still have a loooong way to go but we have already acheived more in this time than i thought we would full stop and i know our time together is only going to get better. i dont pretend to be an expert im far from that, but my point is even someone who is new to this can have an amazing outcome if they do thier research and persist with patience and do not give up hope. look at me and sweetie now ;D
