Hey,
I didn't know where to post this, I figured since it had to do with potentially harming the budgies health I'd post it here...as opposed to the aviary/cage section.
Anyways, we are putting up another roll of wire in the aviary so to prevent them from escaping or anything entering..(kind of like a double paned window, it'll be double wired)..and we discovered what appeared to be mouse/rat droppings.
I've never seen mice droppings like this before. They looked kind of caked..almost like owl pellets.(in the sense that it I could see parts of insects and fur? etc...but on a much smaller scale.
There wasn't a whoooooole lot..about 5 or 6 individual droppings. But they were on the wooden ledge on the north and south side of the aviary.
I'm quite aware of what mouse and rat droppings look like..as at our old house unfortunately we were infested with them--ughh..and where I worked, one of the client's bedroom was infested with mice.
How do I disinfect the aviary? It's made of wood. How long should I wait before the budgies can enter?
One thing I was kind of worried about is raccoon droppings.
Every night around 11pm we can hear some animal jump on the aviary wire and climb up. By the time we get outside, we can't hear or see anything. We've heard the rats in the yard screeching and we can also hear the 'coons growl and rummaging the garbage.
The budgies no longer sleep in the aviary as I can't bear the thought of them sleeping away from mummy since the 3 escaped. But I'd like them to be safe and have fun in the aviary.
Suggestions? Help?
