Hi, lately when I get sweetie out she starts panting, asif she is anxious. She will settle after a few mins of being on me and starts ruffling her feathers, closing eyes and grinding her beak so I'm pretty sure she's relaxed when she's doing this. Is this something she will overcome after time and should I be changing our routine to cater for it? I haven't altered anything yet as she does settle and want her to overcome it any advice appriciated thanks.

It sounds to me like she is nervous but her breathing settles down when she calms down. Don't worry about this unless you think she is ill and shows any other problems. Maybe there is another way to get her out that won't cause this anxiety? I don't know how you are doing it now so I can't really say.

Hi, she is fine actually getting her out (generally on the palm of my hand) but once she is out she starts to pant a bit, maybe just the anxiousness of suddenly being out in the open but once we sit down together she will settle

I think it sounds like she is just excited or nervous and nothing to worry about then

I agree with Sarah, not to worry as she does settle quickly. Is there anything in the room that may make her anxious? Such as a dog, cat? Just a thought. As time goes on she should stop the panting, but meantime, maybe just keep her close and talk quietly to her to reassure her all is okay.

No I do have a cat but always lock her out of the house whilst sweetie is out lol I will just carry on as I am then and wait for her to get more used to being out over time. Thanks for the advice x

Maybe she can sense that there is danger around, even though the cat is shut out. Shrug

Hi Sweetie - I think if she has actually seen the cat around, she may think it is still lurking somewhere when she comes out, but after being out for a while she realises its not there. What do you think???

What do you think??? . I think that's a very likely explanation, hopefully she will soon realise that she is safe with me x
