Several of you guys mention washing millet before giving it to your budgies, but I also notice someone mentioning 'building up an immune system' in your birds and advising not to wash it. Help!!! What is the best please?

Spadger, it's hard to know how well millet is stored or for how long. I know some millet comes all the way from China and is repackaged for brands big and small. It's hard to say how good their warehousing is, or how well the warehouses and shops here store it either.
They can contain mould spores, which will reactivate, or have had mice or other vermin in the warehouses dry goods.
You may never have a problem with millet - until the time that you do! Also, if a bird has a compromised immune system due to illness, it's good to make sure possibly suspect food is clean and sterile.
As well as washing it (a dilution of a product called F10SC is good), you need to make sure it is dried out quickly afterwards as well. Either put it in the bright sun, or on a radiator.

It is necessary to wash if the seeds were stored in warehouses before selling because mice urine can kill budgies.
