Well it all started as a permenant run for the chickens, ive beefed up the security....mainly blocking off any escape routes and then bought 10 Zebra Finches, then came the canaries and finally the budgies, Banjo is the only named one so far, he's the small green cock budgie, so cheeky and playful. I added the bamboo at the back to cut down on wind, i'll attach a polycarb sheet to the first half of the run during winter, also building an indoor flight to roost in for the winter months. The chickens pophole is knocked through the garage wall into a coop for roosting, so i'll knock anther hole out for the aviary birds to use for their flight. Ive put zebra next boxes up which are all being used, ive also got budgie boxes up, would i be better moving a pair of budgies to a purpose breeding cage or will they be happy enough to breed with the other birds around? Paul.

i meant to add, the most beautiful thing is seeing the natural flight, being 20 foot long is almost like being out in the wild, we love watching them.

It's lovely, Banjo. I am not a breeder, firstly, but regarding separating the budgies and pairing them up, or leaving them to nest themselves, ie colony breeding, there are many on this forum who find colony breeding causes all sorts of problems among the budgies. Mainly fighting and chicks being attacked. I have only given a second hand opinion, as no-one seemed to notice your question, , but hopefully some breeders will be able to give you better feedback.

very nice outside flight ....wow thats massive all your birds get a good fly in there ... they should be the fittest birds around . as for the budgie breeding.... because they can be so destructive .....and kill others ..... i would have a separate breeding cage for them ... and a nursery cage ..... then let them back in with the rest when there ready .... i hope this helps.. .

Budgies so love to fly. That's what those long tails were made for.
Where abouts in the world are you, Paul?

How do you find the budgies and the finches get on with each other?
