there was a budgie at work who was born with a sizzor beak, had to ask the breeder to come and collect it in the end as he said it would be fine and it was not considering the beak (was eating and drinking fine) but as it curled around it was allmost pokeing in to the side of its face. There was no way i was atempting to clip that so he took it home.

Barrie, i had some chicks with deformed beaks a few years ago,at the time i was not using a night light, and was told that it could be my problem as the hen would be feeding in the dark, any thoughts its normally caused by a build up of hard food under the inside of the beak

Hi Valerie I had 2 chicks come out of the nest last year, Georgia and Gilbert. Georgias beak is fine but Gilbert had food stuck on the outside of his top beak when he was a chick. The food came off eventually but his beak had deformed. His beak is like your chick number 1. As Barrie said they adapt to life with a beak like that. Gilbert has no problem eating. Even as a chick he had a little scaley face on his beak (I think because it was deformed) and now has spread to his feet as well (we are treating him still) Make sure you check for signs of scally face every now and then. Hope this helps, Nicola

Hi I had a budgie chick with a deformed be I was worried at first but she copes fine and it's due to mum or dad being a messy feed so the beak can sometimes correct itself
