I have not dealt with this before so I need your help. I have a nest of three chicks and I noticed tow of them have deformed beaks. One of the chicks has a upper beak that does not curl downward but slightly outward. The other one seems to have a beak that curls donward but at the very end the tip of it curls up wards. Could they survive tlike this? Do you think this is genetic or the way the hen was feeding them? She is a new mom. I feed seeds, lots of softfoods, sprouted grains and egg products. If this is genetic I will not breed the hen, cock or any of thier offspring. But i need to know if they can make it.

I don't understand why I would be looking for old food? I am hand feeding them right now as the hen has pecked one of them. They are still very young.

Sometimes chicks require cleaning of the inner side of their beaks. Can you post pictures of the deformed beaks?

Here is the second one. Notice the hook at the end of the beak. I was in the middle of feeding both of them , so they still have food on the beaks.

I don't know. I always have a night light on and this happened.
Barrie, as long as they will adapt. I feel better about feeding them. Not that I wouldn't hand feed but I hate to hand feed as they and I become bonded some and then to have them die.
