You are doing great, Annie! thank you, i'm not so sure tho as she doesn't seem to be improving, but she doesn't seem to be getting worse either and she did work a little miracle last tue ( a week and a day now) going from lying limp in my hand to where she is now. I can only hope that she'll be even better again this time next week.

She is still here, so that is to your credit. Keep caring for her the way you have, it is making her want to fight on. Ask your vet about what they suggest you give her to build her up again x

I thought i would update you on Thala, my strong fighting little girl. She is continuing to fight. She was allowed out of her cage for a little bit today, after being confined to it for last two weeks. The conservatory was almost 28oC so it was warm enough away from the heat source. I stopped her med 4 days ago and she is on guardian angel. She is eating quite a lot, but in small amounts often. she also preens herself. She is still pretty weak and doesn't chirp much. She enjoyed her time with Khloro today and was chatting with him quietly. To keep him happy i have given him a mirror and he is enjoying talking to himself. He can't figure out why the "other budgie' won't come out and fly with him. She won't be getting out again tomorrow as i realised today that she is still very weak, she knew herself and was happy to be picked up and put back into her cage at the heat. i hope i am doing the right thing. I haven't been on much this last week or so, because it's been so upsetting hearing of all the other little budgies who have gone off to the fields of millet, and i was thinking she'd be joining them soon. She is not out of danger yet, but i will keep doing my best for her.

You're being so careful and taking so much care over her, Annie. I don't think you could do any more!

It's really awful when other forum member's budgies are unwell. We all know how you feel. I hope Thala continues to improve. You are doing everything you can to make that happen.

Thanks Stace, how do i know she is mending and not getting worse? She's drinking lots guardian angel and eating, but still sleeping so much and very weak. I haven't held her for a few days just to let her get over the stress of being given the meds for so long.

I haven't held her for a few days just to let her get over the stress of being given the meds for so long. It was AGY she has, wasn't it? I've never had to deal with it, but I know it can be really persistent, and often returns later when the bird is under some kind of stress.

I just looked up AGY (Megabacteria) in my vet's book.
It can look similar to a streptococcus bacterial infection, but AGY is a yeast.
My vet uses a med called Amphotericin B as the treatment of choice. He administers it in a 10-day intensive course with a crop needle along with a high energy emergency formula.
It's something a vet would need to do.
Sorry I can't be of more help. I know the Australian breeders feed the rest of their birds oranges and lemons to try to keep AGY at bay, but I think that's more of a preventative.
My vet also suggests a citric acid supplement in their water for the other birds, once a bird has been diagnosed with AGY.

Thanks Stace. Vet said bacterial and yeast infection. She gave her anti b and anti f. From what i have read the bacterial seems to be canker. She has gone down hill again today and has had watery poo (after days of normal) and has been sick ( i think - havne't seen her, but have seen evidence). I'm hoping maybe it's a reaction to the guardian angel (perhaps she's sensitive). Also haven' t seen her drinking today, but yesterday she drank lots of the guardian angel. I took her out and wiped her sticky head and crusted backend. Last time i did this she had normal poos,so maybe she was blocked up??? Sorry not the nicest subject. We also dropped some guardian angel on the side of her mouth, but although she licked it up she was then sick. She has eaten since then. I don't know what's going on. Part of me is thinking i should take her back to the vet and get her to euthanise her but i don't want to do that if she's going to make it. she's survived now and fought for so long. She is a fighter.

Canker is caused by Trichomonas sp, Ann. It is a protozoa, a parasite, not a bacteria, so I doubt it was that.
Is Thala still on treatment? If she has finished and still not getting better, I would be revisiting the vet, or looking for a second opinion.
