A pied will have two body colours just like this one, blue and white Attachments:

I agree with Rachael A dominant pied (the blue and white one in the second picture) will have a splotch of colour on the back of the head. A recessive pied will have random spots of colour. You can tell it's a recessive pied as a rec. pied will have no iris ring in the eye. It will be fully black. Hope this helps, Nicola

Carl, i'm new to budgies, what is a pied? In simple words, a pied budgie is a budgie which has two different color patches, a distinct pattern or lack of color in the body. It is caused by genes. There are different types of Pieds.

I'm finding the genetics behind budgie colours absolutely fascinating. I've no idea what my two are but I'm thinking he might be pied as he has yellow green sort of stripped body.
