Thank's for the advice Lizb. Thankfully, he's settled down a little now and eaten a little millet. I'm inclined to think the stress of the move to a small cage was what put him off. And the lamp fixed itself, after being on for several hours, the cage finally started to retain some heat! Good luck to little Noah. Here's hoping both of ours pull through.

Zo the vet gave Thala baytril, flagyl and nystatin. So if you can get a hold of any of them they seem to be helping her. She's even tweeting a little today - so think that's a good sign. Where do you get guardian angel - do you have a good supplier? I hope that all the little sick budgies get well soon, Noah and Splash and Thala and any others i don't know of xxx

I'm pretty sure that nystatin is anti-fungal, and probably wouldn't be useful, but I'll mention them to my mum anyway. We just ordered the guardian angel off of the internet. Good to hear that Thala is feeling a bit brighter today!

Not a good idea to treat with antibiotics or antifungals willy-nilly. Over prescribing of antibiotics is what has given us penicillin-resistant strains of bacteria (and others of course) that can be fatal. Same applies to the animal world.
Zo, if the cage doesn't seem very warm, get a hot water bottle. It will give off heat gradually - yes you will have to change the water once it cools, but it is better than a cold bird. And yes, nyastatin is an antifungal. How is Splash today?

Only my best thoughts and prayers for Splash's speedy and complete recovery. I hope to hear that he and Noah and Thala all are feeling better. Too many ill little budgies.

Thank you everyone. Looking a little better this afternoon. He's finally plucked up the courage to sit right beside the lamp to get the full benefit of the heat, so he's not looking so ruffled and his poos have a little more substance and a little less water. My mum talked to the vet at her work, who confirmed Baytril was the way to go and mum also got some stool samples to send away to the lab. We'll be watering down the baytril and giving it to him tonight. Still not eating much though...

You're lucky your mums a vet nurse. Give him a chance since we're so lacking in avian vets here in Scotland.

Gave him the Baytril at last (the guardian angel still hasn't arrived, but hopefully he'll get that tomorrow). Bit of an ordeal getting a hold of him, but remained fairly calm overall. They only get a tiny amount, 0.08ml or something similar. My mum gave it to him out of a little syringe while I held him (and got a nasty nip for my trouble!!). Back in the cage, which is feeling lovely and toasty after a day with the lamp on, and all he did was shake his head at the taste, spy the millet and immediately start chewing on the bottom of it. Proud of my wee boy! Still looks like a sick bird, but acting less and less like one for now.

Zo we've been dipping the millet in the med thinned down with a drop water and it's much less stressful for everyone - man n beast! One of the meds is bitter but mixed with nystatin (smells of cherries) she seems to enjoy. Preferential to syringe she tells me. Lol Hope he gets better soon x
