Hi vet said yeast n bacteria infection so hence the anti fungal and antibiotic. This was prescribed for your own bird, Ann, that the vet had examined. What works for one which has been diagnosed is not necessarily going to work for every illness. Splash hasn't been seen by a vet to be prescribed with these antibiotics. Nyastatin and flagyl are quite heavy-duty AB's. Baytril is a rather broad-specrum AB often given to birds when they, (people/vets) don't know what else to do. Zo, don't give the GA until the Baytril is finished. It is a probiotic. Wait till the AB's are finished and then a week of GA.

Thanks Hezz. Sorry hope u didn't misunderstand Zo was only explaining that yes nystatin was an anti fungal prescribed for yeast infection. Good to know what the other two anti b's are more specifically for. Will try source a good supplier of ga today.

No probs. I do worry with over prescribing of AB's - that and microbiology is what I used to do for a living.

Sorry guys, internet crashed last week and didn't manage to get it fixed till now. Just as an update, Splash is looking brighter. He no longer sits fluffed up all the time and most of his poos are looking more solid, although we still get the occasional watery one. He'll have finished his run of Baytril tomorrow night, so he'll be getting the guardian angel after that (unless I should leave it a few days so it doesn't coincide with the remnants of the antibiotics in his system?) and I'll be keeping him incubated till I'm sure he's 100%. The pain problem now is his condition. He's painfully thin, and lost a lot of weight being ill and then not eating as he should. Thankfully back to eating normal amounts now and I'm still throwing millet at him as a fatty food to get the weight back on, though he still eats the trill thankfully, which has all the added vitamins and minerals he needs. Also offered him a honey stick but he wasn't impressed with that. But, yeah. Looking better as a whole

That's great zo. I gave Thala (and Khloro) a seed bell which has honey in it and she's been loving it today.

Lovely news, Zo. Glad Splash is back on track. Starting the GA now is good - hopefully it will give him that extra boost he needs right now to get him back to full health.

Thank you everyone. I've started giving him the guardian angel now. It looks awful made up in his water. I would say that he doesn't look better or worse at the moment. Outwardly he looks fairly healthy, but his poos are getting very loose and watery again, which concerns me. Just hope the GA gives him the boost he needs back to health.
