Hi everyone, I was advised not to colony breed but had already put in a nest box which the hen had started to investigate so I bought a breeding cage straight away and transfered them. It wasn't very big but it was all I could find at short notice. They are now raising 6 chicks aged from 22 days down to 10 days. Soon the eldest will be leaving the nest and there isn't really much room for a gazunder as I have food trays on the floor. I have since bought a large wire cage to use as a nursery cage and was wondering if it would be ok to put them all in it now before any of them fledge. If so would it be best to put the hen and cock in first and then hang up the nest box or do things the other way round. I don't want to upset the parents in any way and disrupt things too much for them.

I have no help to give you, but I'll be very interested to know the solution to this one myself for future reference.

OK thanks Mick. I had a feeling that would be the answer. I'm rubbish at posting pics, my son will help me with it but he's away for a few days.

Thank you Carl. So far there are no problems with the hen and cock feeding their chicks so ours might be ok too without a gazunder. I'll wait and see what happens.

You can move them all to nursery cage when the youngest is around a month old.

Thanks BB, still 21 days to go for the youngest, the eldest is now 23 days. I'll try and post some pics of the chicks. The first is turquoise with cream wings and a yellow head, the next 2 are red eyed one yellow the other a bit paler the next 2 chicks are very dark grey so far and the last one also has red eyes just starting to get white pin feathers. Their parents are a normal green cock and the hen looks like a mauve greywing but she has a yellow head.
