hello everyone! we had a scary experience with Kiwi yesterday. he was fine the night before and earlier yesterday. i left to run some errands, and when i got home i could tell there was something wrong with my baby boy. his right foot went lame, he was tipping over while standing up, his eyes were half closed and he was fluffed up. he wasnt playing with our other budgies like he usually does, so right away i knew there was a problem. we took him to the emergency vet, which is the only vet around our area that takes care of birds too. they gave us some medicine to give him, along with some kind of specific food for him, and told us to seperate him from the others and try to keep him around 85 degrees for 7-10 days. he seems to be feeling alot better today and is acting like himself again. the vet gave him his first dose of medicine, and it looked easy enough. i tried to give it to him today, and turns out its not so easy. does anybody have any tips or advice on an easy way to get him to take his medicine, and to keep him from spitting most of it out? im worried hes spitting out more than hes actually taking. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks! A syringe into the left hand side of his mouth twice daily ....................i suspect it may a minor stroke or a touch of heavy metal poisioning, check the cage for rust .....................

Kiwi seems to be doing alot better. hes still in quarantine and taking his medicine. the vet said to keep him on his antibiotics for 7-10 days, and this is day 8. since hes just about back to his normal self and looks so much better, im going to be giving the vet a call tomorrow to see if hes good enough to be back with the others. thanks for the helpful information! this forum and everybody here is amazing!

Good job, Kiwi. Glad you're feeling better. Jayjay, it sounds like both Baby and Kiwi are on the mend. What a stressful time for you!
