Well I have only had the budgies a few days and am getting into the habit of putting my hand in the cage without them bouncing off the sides, my female lets me stroke her no problem and today flew back into the cage by herself and went straight to the food. 20 minutes or so later I opened the side door and she climbed up side, I stuck out my finger and she hopped on, I was gobsmacked and wish I had the camera. The male tho is a totally different story if I go within 6" really slowly he flys off, never been able to touch him yet so may be a matter of time but i'm in no rush.
;D

It's because every budgie is different. Great news with then hen She must have been handled as a chick by breeder or born to tame parents.

so may be a matter of time but i'm in no rush. This is why you will eventually succeed. It's all about being patient, persistent, and getting 'in tune' with your bird. Some are braver and more easily trusting than others.
