One chick died during the night. It was healthy and had a full creamy crop at the last nest box checking before night. So we are back to two chicks now.

The parents are looking for the third chick which I removed to avoid any bacterial infection.

Awesome!! I want to buy a Lovebird pair too..But cant tell how to choose the adults/ good ones Yes they are very beautifully colored and loving birds. I have never seen them fight with each other. They literally cuddle each other while sleeping. You can feel the love when they are around. They certainly bring more smile to my face than budgies. Their chirping is a little louder and sweeter than budgies. The common Lovebirds, such as peach-faced and masked are not sexually dimorphic so it’s hard to tell their sex without DNA test. But normally females are a little bigger than males and have bigger/wider pelvis bones. It is very hard to establish the age of an adult lovebird. If lovebird is having dark bar on its beak, it would be younger than 3 months. After which all lovebirds look pretty much the same, whatever their age is. Anyhow, they reach their maturity at one year old and normally live for 10 to 15 years.

Sorry BB. The parents must be so confused when something like this happens. It's very sad.

Ohhh how lovely, im still catching up with things (after my hol ;D) so ive just found this thread. Ive often been tempted by love birds but have found them to be VERY loud when ive studied them in the shop, do you find them to be very noisy. So sorry about the loss of one little one . Im interested BB, were you sure yours were a pair when you got them and did you go by the visual signs that you describe, i understand that some finches are hard to sex as well.
