Hi everyone, I got a budgie friend for Winnie big Ernest on the 7 th of sept so I have a few more days to go before they meet but want to know if there is anything I need to do before I put them together what r the steps on a meet. What should I expect ? There is lots I postive chatter from room to room which may I add goes on all day more from Winnie Ernest is a listener and flies to the front of the cage when dearest Winnie is whaling like mad lady in the other room ! Lol Ernest is happy and well (after a few post on here to make sure) as advised he is already in the big cage were Winnie will end up. Winnie goes crazy with all her chirping singing and stunts lol ! ;D she and he do a lot of quite chirps which Winnie never done before also she grinds her beak loads and has a right fat cheek thing going on !

Hi You can put their cages close together to see how they get on for a while & then let them have fly time together. Just to see if they get on ok....B.J.

When the 30 days are up and done. Be sure to introduce them in a neutral location. No cages or anything like that. Take one out and then the other and just watch them. When I introduce new ones, I place the new one on the couch/bed and then the 'old' one. You will see them chirp and slowly take in each others presence. They will most likely hit it right off and you'll see them fly off and play. If you hear one of them 'ah ahhhing' then they are NOT comfortable and you'll need to watch them carefully as that is a warning between them. Clean and disinfect the toys/cages/bedding etc etc all of it before you actually place them together so it prevents any squabbles over possessiveness. I would recommend recording it..so you can have it forever and ever. It would be a very sweet memory.

When the 30 days are up put the two cages next to each other so that they can see one another I tend to do this in the morning and leave them like that over night. The next day get Ernest out and re-arrange the big cage, so perches in different places, toys moved around etc. Then get Winnie out and allow them to meet each other away from the cages, maybe in another room if you can? Once they have checked each other out ;D and hopefully not tried to peck each other (although this might happen but it won't be anything bad) then you can put Ernest back into the big cage and then Winnie in after him. It will take a little while for them to settle in together and work out who is boss (my bet is on Winnie lol) but hopefully things should go well, budgies will usually get on happily with each other

When I introduced my two boys to my two girls, I did it very slowly. Initially I only let either the boys out or the girls. The boys were a little shy but the girls immediately went over to the boys' cage & pecked at them (in a curious, not angry manner) through the bars. Then I let them out all together but still kept them apart at bedtime until I was happy they were friends. They all got on very well of course... I was lucky. I bet Winnie will be the boss too.

I have always gone slowly, too, as Sweetpea has mentioned. I have left them side by side for about a week, maybe a bit less, and allowed them to have some outside time together for a short time, gradually increasing the amount of time out. Then next cage-cleaning day, add the newie/s and moniter what happens.
