Morning all,
i was wondering if you should ring all new arrivals. I keep birds as a hobby and have my first eggs which the hen is sitting on. Do you need to ring the young ? Also having not inspected a ring what do the numbers/letters mean? Do you have to register with anyone etc Sorry if this is a very noob question lol Paul.

Hi Paul, you can get rings from www.budgerigarsociety.com, if you register you will be given a letter and code number, I'm sure someone will give more info on.

Hi You can buy split ID plastic rings that can be put on any age bird diff colours or with numbers on. Metal rings fitted are also available cheaper in cage bird mags ....B.J.

The metal rings with letters and numbers are there so the birds can be traced back to breeder, parents, bloodline etc. The plastic rings in different colors are used by breeders to tell their birds apart. So it's totally up to you whether you want to use it or not.

Some first timers lay only two eggs. Best of luck with your breeding

Hi banjo, I too only breed for my enjoyment, I have started to ring my chicks so that i know there ages, my rings are number 1 too 50, I wait till the chicks are just out the nest then put the split ring on and found it very easy.

Most hens start to sit full time from second or third egg. It's normal.
