As some of you may know I had a young budgie called Perry who tragically died when he flew into the gap of a closing internal house door as it was shutting when I was carrying him back to his cage from the living room to the dining room. I have a new budgie now who I know some of you have seen called pickle who is lovely and very tame. I have a large cage for him and he is out all the time free flying in a large kitchen/dining room when it is safe. Every night I carry him in his cage through to the living room as I am frightened now of carrying him on my hand in case anything happens like it did to Perry. I really am curious though to hear if you carry your birds about the house and if so how can I be brave enough to get over my fear and keep things safe, I have to go though a hallway to get from one room to another which has a flight of stairs in the middle of it? Sorry for the long post! Attachments:

befor i got the dog i use to carry mine from my bedroom down the stairs and into the living room. We had a few accidents like when one decided to jump off my sholder while going up the stairs and bounced down tem or the time ada fell off my sholder and cracked her beak. But accidents cant allways be predicted.to minamise the risk The doors were all open and i made sure lights were turned on befor so to reduce the risk on scairing them, also if one looked like it was going to jump id put my hand over its back to prevent it. also found hiving them on my fingers rather than on my shiolder was better.
You could get a tiny hamster cage just to carry him from room to cage if you worried. Mine hver there big cages and a holliday cage for trips to vets or when they go on there hollidays.

It really depends on the individual bird, Helen, and only you know your bird. If you are scared Pickles is going to hop off and end up somewhere scary, (understandably, in your case) then I would go with PP's idea and use either a small cage you can carry about, a hospital cage or hamster/mouse cage. Just be careful with carrying cages that have a detachable bottom. I nearly always carry mine by the base, not the handle, as the bases have been known to fall off on occasion which can be a tragedy or simply a huge fright to everyone.
