I have had my boys now for two weeks, they are approx 1 yr olds, they don't play with their toys, they don't eat their fruit or veggies (except sweetcorn) and they don't bathe. Am I being impatient???

Am I being impatient??? Yes a little I am afraid Budgies take time to adjust into new home and surroundings. The time is different with every budgie. All you can do right now is to be patient, give them as much space as possible and keep the cage at one place, preferably in a corner.

Impatient??? I have to agree with BB, and say yes! ;D But we all are, so you are not alone. I would suggest also that as yours are no longer babies, they will take even longer to settle in completely. With the veggies, try different ways to offer it - grated, shredded, on a stick, in a bowl, in a bowl with some water etc. Just keep on trying and one day they will, hopefully pluck up the nerve to try.

Thanks BB and Hezz. Am getting some keybobs (is that how you spell it??) next week so will try them. Have tried grated apple and carrot and finely chopped celery but they only seem to like sweetcorn. They are doing well in settling in tho, I must try and be more patient!!!

If they are tame, get them sitting on your finger or shoulder and get a piece of carrot or veggie and nibble on it yourself, then offer it to them. You can try first with a tiny piece of toast for a while or a bit of hard boiled egg, so they a taste for eating off your shoulder or finger.

Ive had my Elf for 10 months now and it took him prob nearly 6months to touch a toy,i thought i had a budgie that would never play with toys and then one day he just started and now you cant stop him He too loves sweetcorn he also loves pak choi and some other things i give him i think he loves but when i look closely he pretends to eat it then spits it out on to the floor ha ha Great idea Stace i never thought of putting him onto my finger and offering it to him

Moogie, don't despair with the veggies he throws on the floor - he is still getting a taste of whatever you have offered, and he is only one wee budgie. I delight in seeing the small pieces of carrot strewn from a*-@#$e to breakfast. It is when they don't touch it that I start to worry!

Thanks Stace I will definitely try that, once they are finger tame. Oscar has sat on my finger several times but with LOADs of encouragement, doesn't really do it willingly, but we will get there in the end. I can see by all your replies, sometimes it takes a long time, so I will just have to persevere and be patient. Thanks guys.

Patience, perseverance and persistance. It is all about the three P's. My two newies were not co-operating yesterday ........ so I left them alone, walked outside and had a little "aarrrrrhhhhhh" and a foot-stamp. My younger son came running down-stairs wanting to know what had made that awful noise. ;D I was right after that. If you get frustrated, just walk outside, throw your tantie, spit your dummy in the dirt, and go back in. Just don't do it in front of them. Hope it works for you, Shirl.

It is simply that they can feel the frustration and tension in you - it makes them nervous too.
