Hello everyone, I've long read at this forum but barely posted and now i need your help and expertise please.
My young female pet budgie Sydney has been in poor health for approx 4 weeks now. She started with vent pasting and in the space of 24hrs had swiftly deteriorated - fluffed up and tail bobbing. Went to vet who prescribed prebiotics in the water and antibiotics by mouth. Little improvement over next 2 days, constant diarrhea and losing condition fast. stool sample was staking to identify which specific bacteria was causing the infection and we tried a new one in the mean time. at last some improvement!
to cut a long story short and sorry to bore you...stools now normal, eating and drinking fine, but depressed and no cheeping. she is gaining weight and vet says she is ok otherwise. using guardian angel also. any advice for improving her condition and mood? she isn't preening herself very well and looks scruffy which worries me.
any advice at all is very welcome!
Thanks in advance salome and Sydney

she has budgie mix from pets at home, millet, cuttlebone, an iodine block and before she was ill spinach and other greens. I haven't given her any veg since her illness as i don't want to risk upsetting her digestion again.

Hi Salome, im sorry your little one is taking a while to build up, your doing all the right things, i usually put GA in the water. You could try her with a little mashed up boiled egg, mine can be a bit funny about it so i give them Shaws egg biscuits which they never refuse or mix a little dried egg food up. Hope she picks up soon.

thank you, i've just bought some online. i've tried her with boiled egg before with no success. I also wanted to know if anyone had any advice for cleaning her up a little. It's hard to explain but her face is quite messy, as though she had something sticky on her, i've been trying with damp cotton wool etc

I thought the same about the meds making her face sticky, but she has been off them for about ten days now. very worrying.

thanks everyone. Barrie, i've bought seed from haiths after seeing you recommend it in other posts. I got the 50/50 and the tonic seed. should i be starting her on that too? and how often do you feed the tonic seed?
