Roswell is back from the Vet. Vet couldn't see anything wrong with his wing and thinks it is psychological, ie depression and feather mutilation. Roswell lost his best mate Jerry who used to preen him and feed him way back in March and it's all I can think of. Maybe he's lonely cos the others apart from Monty have paired up. Vet clipped the mutilated feathers and is going to examine them. If Roswell contunues we may have to have the feathers plucked out He cannot currently fly, here is the affected side...

Ohh how strange, poor Roswell. You wouldn't think he would be lonely with all the others around him, does he share a cage with a pair Marianne.

He's usually out all day long with all of the others.
At night he sometimes sleeps in Dumpling and Skys cage and sometimes with Monty, Snowy and Charlie - I usually let him choose.

Oh bless him, perhaps he feels like a spare part since Jerry passed away. I have heard of it when there has been a lone pair and one has passed away but not when they are in a group situation. Would it be worth trying to just put him with Monty at night and see if they would bond more together.

I can't really do that, it would mean putting charlie and snowy in with sky and lilek and I know that would be disastrous!

Its a tough one isn't it. You haven't got a small spare cage you could set up for them just for a night time cage. If it is this its horrible to think of him feeling like that . How long will you have to wait for the results of the feather testing.

Poor little Roswell. This shows how tightly budgies bond together. Hw misses Jerry so much. Maybe he just needs more time to adjust. Hugs to you, Marianne.

Poor little Roswell. Hope you come up with something to help him get over it. It's not nice to think he is missing his mate that much. Xxxx

UPDATE:
The vet called me this morning to say that he couldn't see any problems with the feathers be analysed, no parasites or mites.
We both agree it's a behavioural thing.
He wants me to call and update him on Monday on how Roswell is doing.
I really like this vet, he is so attentive and actually cares about the animals, he talks to them like they are his little friends just like I do. He's thorough too, can't rate him highly enough, one of a kind.
Big up Brian Stenson!

Good to hear there's nothing physically wrong. It makes all the difference when you have a decent vet you can trust to go to. Have you any thoughts on what will make Roswell feel better?

He really needs someone to feed and preen him like Jerry did. I want Monty to be up to the job so I keep locking them in together.
Stubborn little things though!
